Content of the report

This year I took part in RJE3 program. The program is aimed at developing human resources, which will take responsibility for ensuring a sustainable future in the regions of the Far East, the Arctic and Hokkaido, in the following 5 main areas: ① environmental assessment; ② cultural diversity; ③ soil and production; ④ development of regional resources; ⑤ disaster protection management.

Learning outcomes

On this program, we attended many lectures over the week. Every day included a separate sector of subjects. For example, on the first day, we studied the history and culture of Hokkaido, the second day was about Living Environment and Regional development in Hokkaido and etc. Therefore, it seems to me that every student will find an interesting topic for himself, since we were from different faculties. And also learns something interesting from another direction because this program is designed for development the Far East, the Arctic and Hokkaido in general. Every day after the lectures we had time for discussions between team members. We shared the knowledge gained during the day and at the end we made the final presentation. Of course, the knowledge gained from the lectures helped us a lot during the presentation. I know that the information received during visits to these lectures will help me in the future in my field of ecology and give me opportunity to save and improve international relations between Japan and Russia.

Experiences in Japan

For long-term students we took lectures about the Past and Present of Hokkaido “History of Ishikari and Sorachi”. I was glad to visit the Hokkaido Museum. The Hokkaido Museum is a prefectural general museum showcasing the nature, history and culture of Hokkaido. In this museum has 5 themes of exhibits. For example, we can see in 1 Theme highlight the history of Hokkaido and its people from approximately 1.2 million years ago until the late 19th century. It was very interesting for me. I saw an exhibit in which there was an old train with people of that time and all this was accompanied by sound. Then it seemed to me that I was part of that time and it is really very interesting. I also listened to national instruments on headphones. In my understanding, museums should be exactly where you can not just see but also touch and feel it.

Influence on future career goals and choices

Participation in this program gave me the opportunity to really compare Japan and Russia. And also gave a way of solution for further cooperation and development of the two countries. The program gave us a look at real problems and ways to solve them. For example, during a discussion, our team developed tactics for solving problems as citizens. We don’t have much money and big opportunities, but we can solve the problem, because first of all it is our desire.

Comments

Being part of this program has become an unforgettable moment for me. The most interesting is teamwork and cultural exchange. I want to say thank you my home university and for sure Hokkaido university for this experience and wish further development!
