Hokkaido University in Japan is a prominent University of the world in terms of research and education. Its aim to provide advanced education and creative work to accelerate people who can contribute to the advancement of knowledge through independent and original research. RJE3 program aim is to improve cold regions through engineering techniques as well as sharing technical instruction whereas the society will be benefited indirectly. I would like to contribute independent research in my PhD level which will enhance the subject knowledge properly. In my research work I shall contribute in a research team. In RJE3 Special Seminar I: Fieldwork on Development Technologies in Cold Region program, I have also found a team work to achieve solution techniques in different problems. This fieldwork focuses on the advanced urban design and architecture, regional development in northern regions of Japan. To achieve the knowledge we already visited Kogane Community center, Kashiwa-no-Mori Community center and National Ainu Museum. We watch the video for Niseko Town Hall. As I am belonging to Structural Engineering Lab, I feel so much interest in doing this course to gather more knowledge on urban design and architecture.
Climate is a big problem for Sapporo city. We already study on Sapporo city master plan which starts from 2004. From this we learn how to find out the difficulties and solve the problems to develop a city in an organized way. From a group discussion we identify the major problem which is the communication problem due to snow fall. We also recognize the solution technique by discussion and that is to decentralize the commercial canters of Sapporo city. The community centers whatever we visited mainly build for young children and elder people to get recreation. These are located in Eniwa city and that is based on some awesome idea. This kind of center should have in other countries too. Widen the social activities by enjoying both the traditional heritage and the natural environment where sharing the good things to one another and great knowledge can be got by reading books. The natural forests and public parks are essential things for all kind of ages. Niseko Town Hall mainly builds for disaster prevention considering environmentally friendly facilities including perspective of children’s use. This is also a base that is open to the townspeople where create a facility that is in harmony with nature and create with Niseko’s unique construction methods. In structural plan, this building considers large-span, open-plan and ramen structure with earthquake-resistant walls. In environmental plan, this building considers homogeneous light, panoramic window to feel the great nature of Niseko. National Ainu Museum conveys the message of Ainu people where we learn history, Ainu culture, Ainu people’s life style, food and communication. From typical Ainu home, we learn the ancient concept of architecture. We learn to designing the relationship between region and building or sites, designing exterior space, roofs, waterproofing, exterior walls and opening. As my perspective, mainly from developing country (Bangladesh), need to apply these design concepts incorporate sustainability, think on multi usage of construction materials including raw materials, natural light and air should be utilize in an optimized manner and building our capacity to resolve problems based on scientific and engineering knowledge which is necessary to take a lead in disaster prevention and mitigation measures. It is necessary to do more collaborative research and share knowledge and skill among different Universities in Russia and Japan. This will turn the society as resources through quality education and marketable skills which is pertinent to experience aggregate change in the country and very much necessary to bring positive transformation in the society. If this plan is executed properly, the urban design and architecture of these cold regions can be established with advanced technology. Through this they will be able to enhance their surrounding atmosphere. This skill will surely contribute in the social development.
