The New Ideas of the New Century (NIoNC) 2022 was held by Pacific National University, Russia, from 02/15 ~ 02/17 this year. For the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum was online by ZOOM platform. In the forum, professors and students from universities in Japan, Russia, Korea, Italy gave excellent lectures and presentations.

As for the lectures, 4 professors showed their work in the field of architecture, including research in sunlight analysis, design of railway station, and urban design. For example, Prof. SETOGUCHI from Hokkaido University presented his work in designing the Wakkanai Station in Hokkaido, Japan. He showed the design concept, which allows people feel the beauty of railway and snow. Besides, he introduced the wind tunnel test on the building model, which tries to reduce the accumulation of snow. This lecture informed me a lot of new knowledge in architecture design.

In the aspect of personal presentation, I reported origami structure design, including the background, design objectives, motion analysis, and structure design. Origami is a kind of Japanese art, but recently it has been used in engineering fields for the merits of flat-folding and kinematic motion. This study aims to apply origami concept into temporary structures design, which allow them acquire advantages of fast-deploying and space-saving.

Besides, I listened to other students’ presentations, including the strategies in reconstruction of old city, improved solar panels to create electricity, exhibition arrangements in student campus, historical architecture design in China, research in design smart bridge piers, and so on. From these presentations, I acquired knowledge from different study fields, which widely broadens my eye horizons.

To summarize, I am so glad to attain the forum of New Ideas of the New Century (NIoNC) 2022. I think it is a good platform and opportunity for young researchers to present their work and study the word form famous professors. However, I believe the forum will be better if it invites more universities from different countries and includes more conference topics, not only constraining in architecture. Finally, I sincerely thank the professors, students, staffs and other members in this forum.
