After passing RJE3-program, I’ve learned more about the history and culture of Japan, as well as the indigenous peoples living on its territory. The history and the modern situation of the housing have been also touched.

After discussing the problems of the environment, I began to understand the scale of environmental problems better, not only around the world but also of the Far East, in particular. It has been proposed and discussed interesting solutions of the environmental problems through joint cooperation.

Besides we spoke about another very interesting theme:  current economic and political situation and we discussed what might be in the nearest future.

Also I had an opportunity to learn more about the system of the regional development of Hokkaido. I have not only just listened to the lecture part, but also have visited the Hokkaido Regional Development Bureau and Civil Engineering Research Institute for Cold Region, where the employees told us more about the specifics and their working methods.

As for architectural sphere, I can say, that I was very impressed by the high level of such architectural buildings as Asahikawa Japanese Railway Station, Eniwa Community center with its «Soft Communicate» philosophy, Sapporo Station where harmonically connected modern technologies, effective using of space inside the building and all this with the spirit of Japanese culture. Besides, it was very interesting to mention, how Japanese architectures pay much attention to every detail of the building.

I was impressed by the high level of organization while visiting various fieldwork places and also the level of technological supply and a great amount of marvelous researches connecting with the Northern Regions, which would be also very useful in our region.

This program helped me to learn more about the cultural, economic, social and political features of Japan and Far East, in general, as well as to approve my skills in Japanese and English languages. Besides, it was a great opportunity for me to use university’s library which has an enormous collection of books and to communicate with professors on the subject of my dissertation research. So, I can say that the knowledge gained from the RJE3-program, and studied literature at the University Library, helped me to elaborate further on the topic of my thesis research.

I am very pleased that I had a chance to pass this short but very meaningful educational program.
